Read To Me, Tucson!

Plan of Action

Research shows that one of the best ways to raise successful children

is to encourage family read aloud time early in a child's life.

The Read To Me Tucson! action campaign hopes

to accomplish this in three ways:

Public Awareness

Family Read Aloud Nights

The Blue Book House Project

Public Awareness

MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS has contracted with an advertisement agency to develop a city-wide public awareness campaign to include messages on interior bus posters, bus shelters, billboards, and other banners.

The public awareness messages direct families to the Read To Me, Tucson! website. Here families can locate tips and resources for sharing books with their young children.

Family Read Aloud Nights

MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS presents Family Read Aloud Nights in partnership with the Pima County Public Library. Children enjoy storytime and fun activities, while parents gain simple, effective strategies to use to enhance their child's early literacy development.

The Blue Book House Project

The Blue Book House Project is a book exchange program of the Read To Me, Tucson! partnership. The Blue Book Houses (bookcases shaped like houses) are placed in different service agencies throughout Tucson. Families are invited to take a book home each time they visit one of these locations. This way families can increase their home libraries so that they can read together with their children more often.

For more information on the book houses, visit here.
